MikrokosmosMultiethnic Choir of Bologna was created by Maestro Michele Napolitano with the aim of promoting the integration of foreign citizens and contributing to the interaction and communication between people from different cultures.

Founded in September 2004, the choir has participated in numerous concerts, festivals, and cultural events. Mikrokosmos has also provided musical and social support to initiatives that encourage immigration and intercultural interaction, participating in evenings based on unity as well as fundraising. The choir has always represented itself as a source of cooperation, reciprocal respect and social harmony. It has sought to foster cultural exchange with the objective of realizing the idea of peace.

Using folk music from around the world, Mikrokosmos has united people with different cultural, linguistic and religious backgrounds. Currently made up of more than fifty singers between 18 and 60 years of age, the choir has included people from Argentina, Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Bolivia, Bosnia, Brazil, Cameroon, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ecuador, France, Germany, Great Britain, Holland, Japan, Jordan, Iran, Italy, Macedonia, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, Poland, Romania, Senegal, Sudan, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine and the United States.

April 2005 saw the founding of the “Mikrokosmos” Cultural Association with the scope of promoting projects that promote civil training and growth through song and music. It aimed to show by example the high level of interaction and exchange that is possible between foreigners and Italian citizens.

In January 2007 the “Mikrokosmos” Cultural Association, together with the San Donato Quarter, founded "Mikrokosmos dei Piccoli", a multiethnic choir for elementary schoolchildren in Bologna.

In July 2007 the project titled “Mikrokosmos – Multiethnic Choir” of Bologna received the Intercultural Map Prize: National Prize for the best intercultural practices – the Communication and Arts section, promoted by the Association of Africa and the Mediterranean.

To this day, the choir has held more than one hundred and fiveteen concerts.
